This wine comes to us from the Northern Rhône Valley in France. Jess and I really love syrah so we were excited to give this one a try.
The dark, inky wine starts with a bright (and I mean BRIGHT) nose. (Which makes sense because the wine was done in steel barrels.) I had to inspect the wine closely to make sure I wasn't about to drink a glass of grapefruit juice with a splash of lime. The wine had a grapefruit, honeysuckle, raspberry nose and delivered the same on the palate. I detected a small amount of chocolate after the wine had opened up for a couple minutes, but the dominate taste was grapefruit and lime. It had a refreshing citrus finish that lasted for a solid two minutes. On first impression, this wine produces a jaw-clenching-mouth-watering-pucker-inducing taste but quickly becomes an extremely refreshing red that is perfect for the summer.
I loved the fresh summer taste and I am sure you will love the price. $14.40 in the shop for a limited time.
The Black Cabin Smoked Ale by Crown Valley Brewing in St. Genevieve, MO has long been a star beer in the shop. It features a rich, maple-smokey taste that is incredibly unique and delightfully flavorful. When we tried for the first time the immediate response is emotional. It made us think back to all the camping trips we have been on, and all the good times around a fire-pit. The combination of smoked and chocolate malts creates a creamy, smokey flavor that finishes smooth. If you are wanting to step a little outside of the box, give this ale a try. Oh, and pair it with a nice cigar (now available) and your night is set.
