This Washington Merlot is made by Charles Smith Wines in Mattawa, Washington (Columbia Valley).
Jessica and I both enjoy this wine. It is perfect for spring.
This Merlot embodies all the bright fruits and flowers that you'd expect from a well made Merlot. We enjoyed a refreshing strawberry and cherry taste followed by a lingering raspberry finish. The light body of the wine makes it everyday-drinkable.
Try it in the shop or take it home for $14.90
I was really excited about this wine when I found out that it was rated 90 points by Robert Parker and it was under $20. Plus it is a Malbec. Malbec's seem to fit the season right now.
This wine had a bright, sweet plum nose. You can really smell and see the youth of this wine in the glass. We decanted for about 10 minutes then tasted. Jessica and I found balanced tannin and alcohol with a firm body in the mouth. It had a lingering stone fruit and light citrus notes. The finish is long and full. Overall a great wine. I'd expect this wine to last many years and get even better.
In the shop for about $16.
